From our Digital Strategy Consulting Arm:

The Question:

I need some guidance on hashtags for my tweets. Do all my tweets have to have a hashtag?  How do I choose a hashtag?

My Answer:

First, let’s start from the top with what is a hashtag and why do we use it?

A hashtag is really a keyword phrase used in Twitter conversations ( and now on many social media platforms) that is preceded by a pound (#) sign and written without spaces in between, i.e #ILoveGetConnectid.

The primary purpose of a hashtag is to bring conversations on the same topic into a single thread, to make it convenient for you to view, get the information you are seeking, follow and join a conversation.
